In 1960, Dick and Jennifer Sankey took on what is arguably one of the most stunning pubs in the South East. Renowned for its fine food and lively atmosphere, The George & Dragon became the beating heart of Speldhurst. More than just a pub, it was the birthplace of Sankey’s hospitality journey. Following Jennifer’s passing in the mid-1990s, the Sankey family made the difficult decision to sell the pub to Brakspear.

At Sankey’s, we’ve always championed our town’s independent food and drink scene. While big brands dominate the high street, it’s the local independents that give Tunbridge Wells its flavour and soul.
That’s why we’re proud to announce our next Indie Collaboration: Sankey’s Pop-Up at Alkin’s Tap Room on Calverley Road.

Alkin’s story is one of true resilience. Formerly Good Things Brewing, they rose from the ashes, literally, after a lightning strike destroyed their original brewery in 2021.
Since then, Alkin has been pouring great beer, good vibes and a love of nature into everything they do.
We’ll be joining them for one day only with a special pop-up menu, bringing a taste of Sankey’s to their brilliant taproom.
